A Holiday in Every Season at Tsigov Chark

The Tsigov Chark resort complex is increasingly establishing itself as a preferred destination for mountain getaways. Its convenient location—just an hour and a half by car from Bulgaria’s two largest cities—and its setting on the shores of Lake Batak in the Western Rhodopes attract tourists who wish to enjoy unspoiled natural beauty and tranquility.

For the winter season, the resort offers a 1.5 km ski slope with ski lifts, as well as approximately 20 km of cross-country skiing trails. In the summer, Tsigov Chark boasts many sunny hours and yet relatively cool temperatures, thanks to its elevation of over 1,000 meters above sea level. Nature is at its most beautiful during the spring and autumn seasons. Nearby, visitors can explore a medieval fortress, a unique three-level cave, mountain peaks suitable for hiking, as well as nature reserves.

Despite growing interest in the area, the resort is still not overrun with luxury hotels and concrete buildings. On the contrary, smaller hotels and cottage villages dominate Tsigov Chark’s landscape. Most of them are not clustered tightly together but are scattered along the shores of Lake Batak.

Various recreational activities are offered around the lake, such as fishing, boat trips, and paddle boating. There is also a small island that adds to the charm of the resort. Dining establishments are available, though nightlife and clubbing are not a focus here.

Tsigov Chark is primarily visited by couples and families, groups of friends, fishing enthusiasts, and nature lovers. The resort is busiest during holidays such as Easter, Valentine’s Day, Christmas and New Year, and December 8th (Bulgarian Students’ Day), among others.
