The Varna Dolphinarium

Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria and is visited by many tourists every year not only because of its access to the Black Sea, but also because of the numerous attractions located in and around the city. One of the must-see attractions in Varna is the Varna Dolphinarium.

The Varna Dolphinarium is the only one of its kind not only in Bulgaria, but on the entire Balkan Peninsula. It was opened on August 11, 1984, in the northern part of the Sea Garden. The entire building is made of aluminum and glass and represents a cube with dimensions of 30 by 30 meters and a height of 14 meters. The pools—one measuring 12 by 15 meters and 6 meters deep, and another smaller one with a depth of 3 meters—are filled with water from the Black Sea. The pumping system extracts water 160 meters from the shore, where it is cleanest, and processes it before it reaches the pools. Around the pools, there are amphitheatrically arranged stands with a total of 1,200 seats, from where visitors can enjoy the shows. The dolphinarium also has a café-confectionery from where you can also watch the marine mammals through a special window into the pool, and the terrace offers a stunning view of the entire Varna Bay.

When visiting the city, be sure to visit this local attraction, because the encounter with the inhabitants of the Dolphinarium is exciting, thrilling, and filled with unforgettable emotions.
